Weiland was a powerful battle-cleric, progressing pretty quickly into through the higher levels. I was pretty pleased with how he turned out - rather than being just your generic band-aid, he's actually pretty good at combat, and everyone in the party values him for his healing, buffing, destruction, and other versatile spells.
The setting I played Weiland in has a unique magic system where you have to be magically bound to an elf and draw your magical energy out of them to cast spells. Weiland used to be a noble in his homeland of Arden, but he and his elf vassal, Heimdall, did not support the coup de tat that led to a new king, so they had to flee the country. Weiland's wife did not agree with his views on this, so she stayed behind, and probably lawfully divorced and remarried. Weiland and Heimdall ended up in the city-state of Valhallah to the south, using their remaining funds to support the merchant guild faction involved in the ongoing civil war there. Weiland and Heimdall joined up with some other heroes that turned out to be exiled princes from Arden, thought killed by the new king (their older brother). They eventually went to war with Arden, killed the king, and unified a lot of the continent. Weiland got to be a noble lord of two or three countries in the end.
30-ish, dignified, solemn, wise, and careful, he's an able military leader, commands powerful magic, and enjoys doing his duty and protecting his vassals. His magical powers are focused on healing and battle, with many spells that can help allies or hinder enemies, as well as many utilitarian spells to get through the other trials of their travels.
Dates played: Spring 2007 for several sessions
Class levels: cleric 15 / hierophant 2
Sweet traits: his biggest asset is all his spells. His Healing domain makes him extra good at the cure spells that everyone in the party wants, and his War domain gives him proficiency with the glaive, which really gives him some more combat potential than your usual cleric. With his hierophant levels, he can automatically maximize his healing spells most of the time, and cast touch-range spells at 30ft range.
Sweet gear: he has magic gear and stuff, but it was relatively uninteresting stuff - he wears some +1 mithril full plate and a few armor-enhancing trinkets. His primary weapon is a nice +2 ghost touch glaive of frost. He also has his own baronies and he's pretty rich, and Heimdall, his barbarian elf vassal dude, can probably count as a possession for the purposes of this little write-up - Heimdall is a really tough barbarian wielding a greatsword. It's not like...useful or anything...but he still keeps his wife's ring finger in a little box (Heimdall cut it off in rage when she betrayed them).
