Darvin Greycastle, human Spellsword

Character synopsis

Darvin was my first character. He was a simple human fighter in a party of elven wizards, bards, rogues, and whatnot, so they basically made fun of him and called him dirty and smelly and stupid all the time. In reality, he wasn't stupid at all. He became even less stupid when a powerful mage granted each party member a random permanent magical bonus, and Darvin's turned out to be +10 to intelligence. Now a supra-genius far smarter than anyone in the party, he began to learn wizardry, trying to meld it with his swordplay and get used to casting in field plate.

History / origin

Darvin's grandfather had been a decent adventurer long ago and made a fair amount of loot on which his children grew up. Darvin's father used his inheritance to become a fairly wealthy merchant, so Darvin grew up with trade and economics being forced down his throat, but could never find interest in that merchant-y stuff. He could never satisfy his father, and eventually stole his grandfather's magic sword that hung over the mantel and went off on his own to become a mercenary and eventually an adventurer.

Descriptiony

He always liked doing his own thing and living for himself first. Some accused him of evil alignment, but he was really just kind of callous (not good at talking to people - low charisma), prejudiced (against traditionally evil monstrous humanoids like goblins), and free-willed. Eventually the companions he travelled with were extremely evil, so he left the party to go do his own thing again. They probably expected him to tolerate their evil antics, but it actually pushed him further away from evil thoughts.
