Beren Devir, human swashbuckler

Character synopsis

I played this character in a custom setting where magic was scarce and the Empire was the driving force behind a crusade against angelblooded. He was fun to play with great bluffing skills as he wooed an attractive half-demoness debutante noble, and he was pretty useful in combat.

History / origin

Beren used to sail the high seas as a member of a pirate crew (though he was only there for the fighting, not the sailing). He was one of the crew sold out by other crew members to the Imperial Navy, and he swore revenge, though it wasn't the closest thing on his mind after he was strongarmed into missions for the Emperor that turned out to be quite profitable and looked even more profitable in the long run. Sadly, he was killed by someone he'd thought an ally while trying to stick to his duties and complete his mission rather than joining the rebels and be marked a traitor.

Descriptiony

Beren can be cold and calculating, formulating complex plans to fool people or quickly eliminate them to perform his mission objectives. He likes to bluff, feint, disarm, and sneak attack people - he's all about practicing the more subtle, elegant aspects of personal combat. He's not without a sense of humor, and he can be very flamboyant, especially when he's trying to get the attention of beautiful women (or rich, or powerful, but hopefully all three).

Dates played: a few weeks in Fall 2006

Class levels: rogue 4 / swashbuckler 3

Sweet traits: he had pretty good combat potential with special options like disarming, feinting, and sneak attacking. His high bluff modifier earned him the nickname of "Captain Bluff" once, though he often announced himself (falsely) as a Captain to impress the ladies.

Sweet gear: since we couldn't get magic gear, he got the best non-magic gear one could afford: adamantine, mithral, cold iron, and masterwork, masterwork, masterwork!
